I thought so. You really can't say "Don't kill me!" if you can't speak. Well, there's a bit of some universal hand signals, but those are difficult to yell back as you're running away.

It's worked for me so far and I've been to Hell, the Dungeon Dimensions, and Fourecks.

That's always a very good idea. There are other sapient pearwood luggages in Hunghung and the Agatean Empire, but none of them have his... temperament1.

1None save one, which one would presume got its temperament from its sire....
